NBA

It was absolute mayhem at my work on Friday. The NBA all star game is here in Las Vegas and I work at UNLV where they are holding the game. I was completely amazed how they dressed up the Thomas and Mack. However, more interesting was all the space in the parking lot that they reserved for the game. It’s being reserved for all the VIPs. What a production!!

It’s interesting because the All Star game in Las Vegas is really secondary to all the various parties that the players are holding before, during and after the game. Las Vegas is taking these parties to the next level. It’s been pretty incredible.

Of course there’s talk about having an NBA team here in Las Vegas. I think that it will happen eventually. The mayor, Oscar Goodman, is all about it and so it’s really just a matter of time. I think Las Vegas would really embrace it, but even more significant is fans from other teams that come to Las Vegas to see their team and enjoy the town.

For the record, I still don’t completely understand what everyone loves about Las Vegas. To each their own.

funny TV

It’s funny how TV can affect you emotionally. Yesterday, I watched my DVR’ed episode of Medium from Wednesday, and bawled my eyes out. The whole thing was just so real to me - a parent worrying about their child and trying to do whatever it took to save them. I cried through the whole episode! And then, Grey’s Anatomy last night….didn’t shed a tear. The whole thing with Meredith was over dramatized (and dragged out TOO long I might add) and seemed so fake. Yes, I know TV is fake, but c’mon - a woman is out for hours, no heartbeat, and she wakes up and is fine?

when I went to Chili’s, I got distracted at the front door, by a table of girl scout cookies. They moms and the 2 little girls were just setting up for a few hours, and I used all the cash I had on me to buy cookies - 12 boxes in all! They gave me an empty box and I carried my prize right into the Chili’s with me. I called Jim afterwards and told him I bought cookies. He then told me the girl scouts were at his workplace that day as well, and he had also bought cookies - 10 boxes! So now we have 22 boxes of cookies to eat. Good thing you can freeze them!

Office 2007

I had to write a marketing paper and was having problems with inserting page numbers in Microsoft Office Word 2007. I had the Beta installed prior to receiving the final version from Microsoft and that appears to be the culprit.
If you're having problems with Office 2007, here is what you need to do:

Start -> Run
Type: %appdata%\Microsoft\Document Building Blocks

You'll find a folder called 1033, go into that folder and delete the file called Building Blocks.dotx.

Restart Word 2007 and the file will be rebuilt properly, which will allow for the galleries of different page number formats to be displayed.

The year of the pig! It’s the time to pig out on delicious food and receive or give out angpows again.Honestly, the only reason I look forward to every CNY is the angpows and meeting my kiddie cousins from another state.

But with Paypal I can add my Canadian bank account, my mother's bank account, and tie it all up with my US account so that I can move money wherever I want pretty easily. That was surprising

I was propped against the upstairs railing at Mezzanine on Saturday night, when Omar told me that Peter is moving to Korea. [Peter = my ex, for you new readers.]
Peter doesn't speak Korean. He's never talked about friends in Korea. His work project has nothing to do with Asia. But he decided to move there for four months, and work from the Google Korea office.
That was surprising.
Tonight I got an email from a certain girl, gushing about how she just got engaged. That's great, but ... WTF? Just two months ago she wanted me to date her, and within this brief time she met someone else and got engaged?

Next thing you know, my brother is going to announce that he's gay, and then Google will acquire Microsoft and we'll port our servers to run on Vista. Because apparently I can't predict worth crap about what will happen in the future.

took two hours

It only took two hours to get to work today but I did make it safe and sound. A major 'adapt, adopt' in place during the drive. It was icy around my home but quickly changed to rain and three accidents. Then I got behind an extremely cautious driver ... 35 in a 55 zone. The road wasn't that bad but I really can't blame them after seeing the severity of the accidents that I had passed by earlier. The "Improve" part would be if I could accurately know what the travel conditions would be like across my 55 mile route. The TV and radio gave me a good approximation but there have been journeys that could have gone much better had I known about conditions ahead of time.

My parents are snowbirds and were supposed to be leaving Phoenix today, but extended until tomorrow--which is when we leave. They are driving the truck and pulling the 5th wheel and they like to make it through Vegas before rush hour hits--so they will be leaving early in the morning tomorrow. Our flight isn't until 6:25 pm, but after our horrid experience on the way here--we will be heading to the airport 2 1/2 hours early!! Plus, with my mom gone, and my aunt and uncle working--there is no one to hang with -- so we will go visit our old house and take some pictures. Let the boys check out the new hockey arena and football stadium just up the street from our old house. I may take them by America West Arena--since they are both NBA addicts, and then to the airport for the evening flight home to dad and to school the next day!

Cause ya know what? Frankly, I stopped associating myself with groups of people when I was in junior high. I’m feeling a tad bit more positive now about the whole situation. Randy called me this morning before the majority of people got up and last night he got 2 back to back slots so we got 20 minutes, plus he talked until someone came to the door and overall we ended up with 32 minutes. Free too, it’s nice not having to worry about collect calling anymore. That was PRICEY as hell. Now i have to pay it all off, ick.
Someone managed to slide into my driveway this morning and get stuck for about 45 minutes. Then once I barreled through about a foot of snow I find out 20 minutes later my driveway got plowed. As I was getting ready for sleep my poor cat was still afraid to get into his bed in the window - so I went out and got the thermometer and put it in my mom's bedroom window instead. Poor cat. I think it traumatized him. He now lays in the bathroom, which is the only room in the house that has a window he can't easily see.

Of course, my brother did not exactly help the situation. I was pointing out the uneasy way Harry was acting and after petting the poor cat for a few minutes my brother tossed him into the window cat bed - Harry froze, eye to eye with the evil monster he had been avoiding. I informed my brother that was an evil thing to do, he said "No, this is evil" and made a grab at the back legs of the cat. Poor Harry went balistic and every direction at once getting out of that bed and around the desk and into the basement.

my Gmail

my Gmail notifier has been acting weird. At startup, it no longer prompts me for login information; but instead, displaying an “offline” or “logged out” indicator in the system tray.

Tried selecting the “Tell me Again…” from context menu, but my browser was redirected to a page displaying the message of “The page you requested is invalid”.

What’s wrong going on? Anyone facing similar situation? Or anyone having a solution?

I’ve tried to reinstall the notifier, but it doesn’t work.

Prior to this misbehave, the notifier was working fine, under the same system configuration.

At first, I suspected the firewall. But, temporarily shutting down the service does not solve my problem as well.

For your information, I’m running Gmail Notifier 1.0.24.0 on licensed Windows XP Home SP2.

It's been such a struggle for me, when sending out resumes and not receiving any responses, not to just completely give up on this city and find somewhere else to go.I actually wrote a poem titled, "10 Things I hate about You" about this city. It actually made me smile a real smile. Something I haven't done in quite a while. Make myself smile. Make myself happy. Dharma's very good at making me smile, but I'm harder on myself. Have you ever had one of those moments where your entire world turns upside down? This past Monday was that day for me.With Dharma off to her conference I ready the two kittens, Saana and Marcel for their vet visit, for a spay and a neuter.
9 am with two very disgruntle kittens that haven't had any food since 11:30 p.m the night before, I was able to wrestle both in the big carrier and off we went. The message that I had received the night before was this was a drop off only. Since I didn't make the appointment, there was some confusion. Now my dear readers picture me without caffeine and stumbling into the vets expecting to drop them off and pick them up that afternoon. Since I was getting certificates from the Berkeley Humane Society for their vet visit, I didn't see a need to hang around. Oh but that's where the fun of gouging begins.

Chilling

Its a nice Saturday afternoon and I am sitting on the deck writing and absorbing a little bit of sunlight as it filters through a slightly patchy sky.
My dogs are hanging out on the deck with me, the gate at the top of the stairs is closed and my daughter and her two friends (all average age of about 4.8) just joined me as well.
Its a bit chilly out here,probably about 64 or so and I am wearing a sweater. When I first came out, it was brighter and warmer, but as soon as I sat down the sun went into the clouds and a cool breeze picked up.
