quite restless

I have always been quite restless , and never been able to find a hobby that I actually stick to. I have tried a lot of things; knitting , cross stiching , crocheting - to name a few , but I have always given up on them after a few weeks.

In January 2004 I was searching the internet for hobbies I could try, and I stumbled upon a Norwegian scrapbooking site. After hours of reading about the topic I really felt that this was something I should try. I have now been scrapbooking for over 3 years and have gathered quite a lot of scrapbooking supplies.

In this column I will write about everything scrapbook related, it might be showing off and telling about a layout I have made , telling about different techniques or telling about the newest products.

one week

Exactly one week! Yes, in one week time, Raelynne will be taking her first plane ride. I hope everything goes well. Plane may be one thing, I wonder how we’ll go with the traveling time in KL. She current routine would be two naps per day and two solid feedings per day. Nap time would be at 9am, then followed by feeding at around 11am. Then another round of nap time at 1pm-2pm, followed by feeding in the evening around 5.30pm.

My wife is currently more worried about feeding times as she may asked for solid feedings. Last week, when we brought my parents in law out, we actually managed to give her plain porridge from the outlet. Does that mean we have to find porridge in KL ?? hahahaha… Maybe I just “tapau” porridge from the hotel’s breakfast lar! Else, we may just have to buy those baby food in the bottle. Then again, she likes to take it warm.

Anyway, we shall see how it goes as and when we are there lah. Definitely can’t set a specific time for her. Many relatives and friends have asked what time is convenient for us to meet up. I said don’t know lah, see how Raelynne goes lah. If only both of us, we can set any time and meet it. But with her around, its very hard to predict.

Well, that’s one of the few things that boy now knows. If you say to her “Hello, Hello”, she will look for the house telephone or any mobile phone around and sometimes gets excited about it. If you tell her, “where’s the lantern?” she will look up at the ceiling looking for my mum’s home made lantern. If you ask her, “where’s mummy?” she will look for mummy. Same goes for Poh Poh, Kung Kung, Daddy…

She’s definitely getting smarter now cos’ she can recognize a few things around her. When you read book to her, and have the next page half open, she will move her head towards there and peek at the next page and see what’s there.

One thing for sure, she is one baby that loves FOOD so much! Only last night she was sitting on the dinner table on the baby chair with the rest of us. She was looking at mummy and daddy eating with the rest. Wah, she got angry and demanded to be fed. She also want to eat along with all of us. So had to take out her biscuits and feed her with it. Luckily she eats it and doesn’t asked for our food.

You always think that customers are always right, right? Well, NOT with this person. You see, I often visit Starbucks after lunch with my colleagues to get a cup of coffee or just simply accompanying them while they choose their espresso. You might think that I’m rich, well, I’m not. You see, rewind back 4 years ago when I saw my boss everyday also go Coffee Bean, we used to comment that they were rich. Looking back at myself, I finally understand their needs for a comfort drink. Some caffiene to perk you up for the remaining rest of the day is vital when your job stresses you out like nobody’s business.

So back to Starbucks. After visiting the outlet for about 2 years, I finally got to realize that some of the staffs there really make a good cup of coffee. One particular barista was my favourite because of her chrippy character and knowing that how to please her customers. She usually gives free samples and cakes when she can occasionally, so yeah, we are pretty happy and in love with her. After she left, things changed. The service there was no longer great and one particular incidient really made me pissed off.

You see, I particularly liked the way how one of the barista there made my coffee so whenever he was around, I would buy a largest size. Then one fine day, when we were paying for the coffee, we requested the cashier to get our favourite guy to cook up the coffee. However, things were not as it seemed. Instead, one of the senior made the coffee and being a customer I insisted my coffee made by my favourite. The worst part was the senior was rude and angry at me. Hello? I’m the customer here and I have every right to demand how my coffee is made by whom. Afterall, that cup is not cheap at all!!!! Thinking that the senior forgot the whole incident, he made some rude remarks to some of my colleagues that made them pretty angry and even said “my coffee’s not nice to drink wat…” that now, from that day onwards, they boycott the shop whenever he’s around.

I am SO proud of Hubby. It has been a week since he smoked a cigarette. I never dreamed that he would make it this far.What amazes me even more is the fact that we’ve actually been getting along. He has tried to quit smoking before, and he was always extremely grouchy. But this time he has been quite calm. Maybe it has to do with the fact that he’s not sneaking and smoking when I’m not around like he did before.

I don’t know why he would sneak and smoke in the past. I’ve never pressured him to quit. I have always told him that I wish he would, but that he had to do it for himself or it would never work. I think that’s another reason that he’s doing so well- the reason he quit this time was because he was having chest pains that concerned him. The doctor said it was just a pulled muscle, but between Doc and me, I think we got it through his thick skull just how bad smoking is for you.

Kw love to mimic to sing using a mic recently, she will grab anything nearby and pretend it as a mic and start sing along with Barney to the mic. I bought a set of children karaoke for kw last night which consists of a mic with mic stand, the mic was preset with music mode with three diff music and a karaoke mode. She was shy and reject to play it at first, so we just leave it aside. never used Anti-Spyware

I know, I didn't post due to me going all around town and having class, practice, work and other things to attend to. Today's my lighter day, but I slept in 3 hours so I'm kinda off at the moment.

Anyways just wondering what major program you guys use for Spyware removal on a Windows computer. Everyone's had to do it so let's hear your thoughts. Right now I use a combination of Lavasoft Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, HijackThis! and then I install Windows Defender for permanent 24/7 protection. Usually does the trick but you never know with all these popups and the spyware.

Anyone have any other ways? I've never used the AVG Anti-Spyware, heard it's good, or what about Spysweeper? anyone have any experience?

Gareth Hinds

While reading Gareth Hinds’ adaptation of Beowulf you are overwhelmed by the powerful art therein and drawn into the legend that is the mighty warrior. It is a stunning rendition of the age-old epic saga that clearly demonstrates the Viking ethos and beliefs.

As a fan of the tale since reading it as a young child, I can highly recommend this graphic novel version. Every home should have one for when your child hits the comic book stage. Cthulhu fans will be interested in Hinds’ manifestation of one of the monsters that Beowulf battles.

Words do not do full justice to this thing of beauty. Hinds’ illustrations bring the story to life in a way that you have never seen before. His entire way of doing illustration evokes a feeling of the cold wastes of the Viking lands, the bleakness of the wintry fyord and the toughness of Norse men.

I am not one to really like graphic novels, as I am not really into visual representations of stories, preferring the written word. However, this book is so impressive that it overcame my indifference to the genre.

Clearly Hinds is a talented graphic cartoonist who will no doubt move on to more impressive works. It takes an amazing level of talent for an artist to be able to take such a well-known tale and make it his own.

What better way to introduce someone to this classic of Northern European literature than this spectacular book? And unlike many books of any kind it’s one you will find yourself reading again and again examining the drawings in minute detail for the subtleties that lie therein.

This is the most impressive graphic novel I have ever seen… bar none. Yes it is that good.

I look forward to visiting Iceland some day

have been planning to write this post for about 24 hours now since I saw a Sky report which saw some leftie nitwit prattling on about how Iceland should be ashamed of itself for whaling again. (Here is a new story when they recommenced last year.)

This got me wondering. If whaling were not done by Caucasians and first worlders but by Third World types would the left be so up in arms about it. If there were a whaling tradition in deepest Africa would they be so in a snit about it? I suspect not. You see the PC types seem to be perfectly happy to let ethnic types do whatever thing they do which we might find objectionable because its their “ancient culture.” Yet when a bunch of white people in Iceland or Norway want to whale, something they have been doing since Vikings figured out how to get their boats out of the river, they should be stopped by the UN and everyone else.

Of course, the press buy into this rubbish by showing whales being hunted and slaughtered. Funny how they never show a cow being chopped up for mean when they go on about some cow problem or turkeys? Yeah whales are magnificent animals but they are also rather tasty as well as their other uses.

Whaling is as much part of the Nordic/Viking culture as anything you could name on this planet yet they are expected to stop doing it because a bunch of know it alls are offended by it. I am glad the Whaling Commission is in disarray and falling to pieces. I welcome the fact that Iceland is telling the international environmental meddlers and PC types to get knotted. Its good to see a country standing up for its culture and beliefs in the Western world for a change.

I look forward to visiting Iceland some day and eating whale meat. What is also rather neat is the fact Iceland is moving towards a flat tax.

domestic accidents

I spent so many hours at the vet's last week that I've seen so many animals that people rear and the domestic accidents that happened to them.
There's the monkey which was scaled by hot water. According to the owner, he has two monkeys and these two are so naughty. They played with a kettle of hot water and one got scalded.
And then there's the macaw who was slashed at the breast by the blade of the ceiling fan. Oh my, that was terrible. Luckily it did not slash his neck!
And again, another case of a bulging eye dislodged from the eye socket. If you remember, there was one case of the toy dog which had the eye dislodged by the neighbour's dog. These two cases really have put me off keeping dogs with bulging eyes FOREVER.
And the classic one was an Ah Beng who brought his 3ft tall (standing on all fours) dog who wore a S&M metal studded fake leather collar. This one came to be boarded.
