work work

I am literally in panic attack mode right now. I have so much stuff to do it is insane.Tonight I have night class and I am not sure if there is homework due. Tomorrow I have two exams (in marketing and prob & stats) that I have yet to begin studying for. I’m just going to write down the formulas for the prob & stats exam on a notecard and call it good - we’re allowed to drop our lowest test score and the test after this one is supposed to be the easiest of the class.

eggs

Are they have that great 2 for 1 sale on eggs. If you are getting the medium sized eggs then you can freeze them. Get an ice cube tray and crack each egg in its own little cube. The next time that you have to go and bake that cake just pop them out! You can just defrost them in a zip lock bag if you have to. This is a great way to not have to throw away all those costly eggs that you go. What is the point of getting more eggs if you are just going to throw them away….instead of saving you will actually be losing money!

Vista

After using Windows XP for five years, I was comfortable to say the least. I wasn’t gung ho about trying a new operating system, however my recent purchase of a laptop gave me no choice: Windows Vista Home Premium was pre-installed. Remember the release of XP? The differences between XP, WindowsME/98 were huge. Networking, security, (or, so we all thought), and user accounts. Well, Vista, with it’s very, and I’m going to use a non-technical term, pretty interface, is night compared to XP’s day.

I will get into the graphical aspects of Vista in later posts. First and foremost I want to mention what I have deemed the most annoying new “security measure”-User Account Control, or UAC. Example: You want to install a new program you have downloaded. You double click the icon and Vista pauses slightly. Then a window pops up asking you if you are sure you want to perform the task. I would love to take a screen shot, however once the UAC is activated everything on your desktop disappears and you are left unable to click on anything except the continue or cancel buttons on the popup. Annoying? Yes. Although it is designed to prevent unauthorized changes to your computer, I think this is over-kill. The UAC is on by default-even under the administrator account, but, fear not- you can turn it off.

1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Click User Accounts.
3. Click “Turn User Account Control on or off.”
4. When the UAC pops up asking if you want to proceed, click continue.
5. Untick “Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.”
6. Reboot.

Once the computer is rebooted-no more annoying pop ups asking if you’re sure you want to perform a certain task. If I didn’t want to do something, I wouldn’t have clicked the icon, now would I?

I'm actually kind of laughing at myself, because it's not just my feet that feel bruised today! My poor body has been through the ringer this week. When I was getting out of my car the other day, I went to close it, and the corner point of the door swiped my leg. I ended up getting a bruise and a goose egg on my right leg the size of two silver dollars!

Yesterday, we were playing with the dogs, and Gracie, our over 100 pound moose dog jumped up to do a "group hug" thing we do with them. She gets all excited, jumps up, stands on her back legs, and her front legs, we catch. Anyway, I miss, her front paw hits my arm, and her claw leaves a trail as it scratches down my arm by mistake. It's my own fault, I wasn't quick enough this time!

Between my swollen feet, my bruised leg and my scratched arm...I'm marked up good today! Ahhh, but the show must go on! Things to do, people to see.

Feng Shui At Home

As with a lot of my friends in KK, I was sucked into the whole feng shui and Lilian Too phenomenon a few years ago that I bought several of her guide books and even some of her enhancers. Along with my parents in law, we followed her shows until they discovered a less glamourous feng shui master. I myself discovered Joey Yap and Lilian's principles began to sound more and more nonsensical.
Soon after, I lost nearly all interest in this field. Let's just say, I regained my "common sense" and my books have been untouched for nearly two years now.
But I kept my subcription to another feng shui master and today I received an interesting tips of some of the "Dos and Don'ts of Home Feng Shui".
Those who follows feng shui would know most of these by heart but I was interested in the more reasonable explanation given on one very common bedroom taboo :
Mirror Facing Bed
The most common reason for this is that it will invite a third person into the marriage.
Kerby's explanation : You don't want to see yourself in the middle of the night (creepy) or early in the morning before your wash up (very true)
Read his "Do's and Don'ts of Selecting A Home Site" too

remixing

The trend of remixing old songs is the hottest here in Nepal. Creating a remixed song is far easier than creating your own compositions. All the good old songs have been remixed in nepali music industry right now. It is not about rejuvenating the old songs but is a lack of creation I should say. You don’t need to worry about the lyrics and melody. It has already been done with a lot of hard work by the former musicians and the singers and thus makes remixing thing a hard work free task. I too have been thinking of remixing an old song and climbing on its back to reach the extreme popularity. I won’t have to worry about the melody and the lyrics as well. I just need go to a studio, there would be a lot of rappers who would rap for me for a petty buck and there will be djs who would mix up the melody and my vocals. It is the easiest way for me and to everyone as well to reach the peak of popularity. Remix sucks and sucks. It is a cheap trick not even cheap, it is the cheapest.

Adobe CS3

I'd like to upgrade my copies of Photoshop and Flash and get Adobe Lightroom. Adobe has an offer for Photoshop and Lightroom and another one which includes Flash and Photoshop, but the only way to do what I want is to probably buy the Photoshop & Lightroom deal and then buy Flash separately. When you do that, you pay so much money that it seems better to buy one of the package deals and purchase Lightroom by itself. That might be the better move, but there are too many deals and packages that it's all a little confusing to me. And some of them aren't available yet, which makes it even more confusing.

potatoes not potatoes???

A woman who had shopped in a local market in a town near Naples got quite a surprise when she opened the sack of potatoes that she’d purchased. She took out the potatoes to wash and peel them and discovered that one of the potatoes was really a hand grenade that had apparently been left over from World War II.

Olga Mauriello had put the potatoes in a pot of water and had begun to peel them when she found the explosive which was heavily covered in dirt. Alarmed, she called her neighbors who in turn called the police.

The police ended up detonating the grenade the next day in a nearby park. The grenade was believed to have traveled with the potatoes from France.

What do they do?

I heard that next week, PayPerPost will announce about their acquisition of a new company. Who is it? I don't know now. yes!nobody knows who will be the latest addition to the PayPerPost family.I would guess something like a company that either offers statistics or another blogs advertising company.Ideally, the newly merged company will be able to provide more to its customers while setting a higher standard of excellence for its competitors. but when Payperpost starts letting us know something, all of us posties have to be attentive. Hopefully it'll be something nice for us.
Here's my guesses for real rumours that might be actually true is that either: Payperpost has acquired another smaller company (which has happened before) or Payperpost has gone cash flow positive.
If they acquired a blogging statistics tool, it would offer a measurement tool that would be a new consistent measurement, rather than having to go through different avenues for measurement. Right now blogs are measured based on page rank, through Technorati, and through Alexa, and that can lead to confusion, needing to have different rankings for each one. By having a page measurement tool, it would be one simple form of measurement for pages, which mixes this information together, and helps advertisers find blogs that fit a certain criteria, without having to adjust for one here, or one there.it needs as many high ranking blogs in its fold as possible to entice advertisers to join. One quick and easy solution to this would be to buy companies that specialize in selling high ranking blogs. Then PayPerPost could simply put its favorite bloggers in charge of these sites and let the money roll in.If they acquired another blogging medium that is their competition, they can then absorb them, have access to multiple blogs that they didn't before, and drive traffic and create more buzz, without other start up businesses and competition biting into their market share. As well picking up another smaller company to boost it's profile or enable Payperpost to access new markets could be in order, since it tried to do that with Performancing.com. The cash flow positive might be great right now.Who knows it could happen.
Those are my guesses for the big announces, I'm probably way off but it's fun to guess.

magazines

Do you read a newspaper still? Consider only getting the Sunday edition, and save money, rather than buying it daily, and get your news online.

Do you read magazines? Do they have digital versions that are of no cost to you? Save money and cancel those extra subscriptions.

Have you checked your cell phone plan lately? Can you find a better plan, get a discount, or drop a service you don't use. Sometimes offers that are open to "new clients", can apply to you if you call and ask. I've had my plan switched based on what I saw for "new clients", and they were fine with making the switch and giving me the discount, just because I asked.

The largest osCommerce template membership site

I'm a fan of good design. Why do I just have the basic design on my blog? Well,is that good design is not always easy to find.when you want to create a site and you want a template, but the cost of it can be expensive. For a well designed, professional template, sometimes people are charging upwards of $100-$200 dollars. But yesterday,I found a great web designers site--osCommerce Cafe,The osComemrce Cafe is the largest osCommerce Templates membership site on the internet. It was set up specifically to help designers create gorgeous sites for people with online stores. Set up by Myles O'Reilly, author of The Programmers' Guide to osCommerce, in March of 2006, The osCommerce Cafe currently has 70 different templates from which to choose.they offer this amazing templates for businesses or individuals. So many people own business that could use a very professional, easy to navigate and still tied back in to who they are and what their products do.The templates are neatly organized in 19 different categories, so you can easily find a theme that matches the store.
If you would like an osCommerce Templates, they offer membership packages for three months, six months and one year.In this time you’ll be allowed to download and use as many designs as you like, which pretty much justifies the price; 89 dollar for 3 months isn’t too bad if you compare it with the prices their competitors often charge more than $150 that for just a single design. They have designs for all your web site needs. The designs are top quality, and I'm blown away at the three month price!WOW!!

Xbox 360 ad banned in UK

An Xbox 360 ad was banned in UK for glorifying rash driving. The ad shows a driver driving at high speed being chased by cops, and at the end cops hand him the badge as it they were playing tag. Really nice concept in my opinion, but Uk's Advertising standards agency said that the ad breached health, safety and driving rules(LOL, its an ad) and hence could not be telecast. The ad also featured advisories like "Dramatization. Professional stunt. Do not attempt" and "Professional drivers. Maybe if they wrote "No police drivers and/or normal drivers were killed during the production of the ad"

Well if we had anything like advertising standards in India, then i think the Akshay Kumar ad (the one with the incredibly obnoxious music) also ought to be banned as it shows him stealing thums up from a truck , which is illegal plus he is also endangering the truck and traffic by standing in the middle of the road :P. Also he violates major saftey codes by jumping off of top of buildings.

Gameboy Player

So I am on a quest to find a Gamecube Gameboy Player for my kids Gamecube. Apparently Nintendo no longer manufactures this. I found out the only way to get one is to buy one second hand. So of course I go to eBay. Boy was I surprised not only are a lot of people selling this item, its going for a lot of money as well.

So what is a Gamecube Gameboy Player? Its a little machine if thats what you want to call it, you attach it to the bottom of a Gamecube, user the screws that come with it. It also comes with a start up disk. What this player does is give you the ability to play Gameboy, Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance games through your Gamecube. You can either use a Gameboy to control it or you can use a Gamecube controller. Since my kids have a lot of Gameboy games, I thought it would be cool to get this for them. But at the current price it's going for they are going to have to wait lol.

It never fails lol, that when I am looking for something on eBay a billion people are looking for the same thing too. Stay tuned and find out if I will finally be able to snag one of those puppies lol.

computer

I have some computer problems . We can’t use our desktop computer until a replacement part that we purchased online came in, so Chris and I have to share the laptop.
Well … we don’t have to share - not completely. We do have an old old computer upstairs. So I spent a few hours upstairs hooking that computer up to our network. It’s a very slow computer with very little memory.
The antivirus program on it had expired and I tried to download the free Norton Anti-virus that Rogers, my internet provider, supplies but to install it the computer needs to have 256k of memory, but our old computer only has 128 k … problems! So I downloaded a free one - AVG. Hope that’s an ok one. It took about 20 minutes to download on the old slow computer.
I actually did all this on Sunday. I left Chris to watch the downloads and install them - software is not his specialty. I set him up to download firefox too. We had never put firefox on that computer for some reason. Chris used to be a computer tech - great with working with computer hardware, but didn’t do much work with software. I’m the software person in the family. I’ll have to check later to see if he got it all installed and set up properly. He probably did … I hope he did anyway.
So for now Chris has the slow upstairs computer and I’ve got the laptop. I wonder how long he’ll put up with the old computer?
I’ve started to think that if we get the other desktop working properly maybe we’ll move it upstairs, get rid of the old useless computer, and maybe get a new laptop?
Trouble is - I really like doing my graphics work on my desktop. The monitor has a bigger screen and the colors look so much better on my monitor than they do on the laptop screen. Maybe I could hook up the laptop to the nice monitor when I wanted to do graphics? I’ll have to check out that possibility … or maybe one of you might know if I can do that?

Microsoft SilverLight

Microsoft finally found the key to breaking up Flash’s dominance of rich web experiences? I sincerely hope so, I’m just allergic to Flash.
Anyway, I’ve come across an exciting post on Tim Sneath’s Blog announcing SilverLight, which is going to be the new name for WPF/E. It’s Microsoft’s play into the cross-browser, cross-platform, rich media platform. The great thing about Silverlight is the fact that it integrates extremely smoothly with the HTML that makes up your browser page. This means it can be indexed, manipulated and enhanced directly; whether this be by search engines, data, events or just user interaction. Doing this in Flash used to be quite tricky, so this new format does actually bring a technology advance in the game and provides a compelling reason for developers to start looking at it.

live in Dubai???

We're looking for a place to live in Dubai, so if anyone has some tips on good agencies to use there, do let me know. I've sent some mails to some agents on the web, but have not any positive replies as yet. There are a lot of great agents I hear, so it seems that I'm not contacting the right ones so far. I think I need to find some expat boards to get the scoop on how to find a good agent and also someone to give us the details on finding a company to ship some of our stuff there. We're not going to take our furniture or electronics, since it would be easier to just buy everything there itself, but will need to ship some of our personal items.

A day

Yesterday I was at home all day. And I made up for it today... out for groceries and then for Easter clothes. I went to Hamrick's and found a cute pair of pants and a shirt to wear to church on Sunday. We are keeping nursery for th 8:30 service, so I figured a dress wouldn't be a good idea.

Since I didn't get a new Easter dress for Sunday, I zeroed in on the shoe section to see if there was anything that caught my eye. Cass wanted a picture of something I like and this is something that I really like...

Before I show you the pictures I have to tell you that I have big feet that only got bigger when I got pregnant. After Fuller was born my feet did not go back to their pre-pregnancy size and now I have a hard time finding cute shoes that I like. When I tried these shoes on today, I almost cried because 1) they were cute and 2) they fit so well.

Hotel Reservations

Over the past 3 years, I've been a traveling computer techie. I’ve logged around 200,000 miles and spent somewhere around 5 months in various hotels all over the world, so I’ve gotten to know a thing or two about traveling. Travel can either be fun or a super pain in the butt. Finding good flights, hotels can be as big a challenge as getting to and from your destination.Personally, I prefer to book hotels prior to a trip, via online reservation facility, as the rates published online are usually much lower than walk-in or over the phone.Hotel Reservations works the way you want to work. They offer more than 70,000 properties worldwide.and they offers the information travelers need to book the perfect trip all backed by the HotelReservations.com Price Guarantee. The site is clean and intuitive and extremely helpful.Another groovy feature of the site is the destination guides which they may not have for every city, but it appears that many are, and it seems like more are being added all the time.
You can search for Hotels, Flights, Cars, Vacation Rentals and Vacation Packages.Reservation process at HotelReservations.com is very simple. Just select or enter the desired city, enter the dates of arrival and departure, and enter the number of guests. A end then a list of hotels or vacation rentals will appear.I like having lots of info on my screen so that I don’t have to search around. It took me about 5 minutes to see how it was laid out. Once your hotels are on the screen you can sort the results by Value, Price, Quality, or simply A-to-Z. You want to only see hotels with Free Breakfast and Children’s Activities?,Hotel Reservations has got you covered for these and many other preferences. With Hotelreservations.com you can save up to 70% off of your reservations and then there is also the $100 rebate if you make a reservation on the Internet. If you book a reserveration and find a cheaper rate somewhere else then you can get a rebate based on the number of days that you booked. For example, a 12-day night booking would equate to a $100 rebate. You can pay with major credit cards as Visa, MasterCard, AmericanExpress, through a secure commerce server, which encrypts the credit card number. You can explore great destinations within one to six hours from your chosen ZIP code with Road Trip search. If you like working with people over the phone, HotelReservations has toll-free numbers for the USA, Canada, and Europe. This can be a huge plus over the other reservation sites, because if you are in France and you have a problem, you really need to get somebody on the line.
They offer group bookings and even have a handy city guide to help you plan your trip.If you're going on vacation,HotelReservations.com can help you find the right place to stay.so check it out.

blog

So today I discover what all the Twitter fuss was about and was immediately taken by the possible implementations of this clever litte site that does one thing, and does it well. I allows you to tell the world what you’re doing right now in 140 characters.
Simple concept, a magnitude of possibilities. Why? Because it allows you to send messages via Instant Messaging (IM), SMS or from your blog. It will also work vice-versa by letting you recieve messages from friends in your network via SMS or IM. Brilliant.
You can set up an account in 2 minutes. I installed Alex King’s Twitter plugin for wordpress and now my Tweets appear as a sideline on my blog. I can also get them appearing in categories if I want to and post directly to my blog from Twitter.com, neat huh?

Great Gambling Site

Now, the online gaming industry is all going nice and has become quite a hot topic of discussion in today’s news. There is a not problem for these companies as people seem to even more keen to spend their money gambling online with fellow gaming fans.
I decided to have a look around today and came across JackPot City Casino, which is a website that specialises in slots for users in Australia and the UK.On top of that, Jackpot City pays $5000 to every jackpot winner.by the way,I found that the website is run and managed by Microgaming, a name I’m familiar with, they’re based in the Isle of Man.
At JackPot City Casino,There is a 100% bonus for sign-up ups to a max of 150 in whatever denomination you are playing with on the site. The betting limits are also great and you can find suitable stakes in almost every game no matter if you are a recreational or a high stakes gambler.Jackpot City offers more than just a couple of lucky jackpot-winners. They also have a wide range of other casino games; blackjack, poker, Roulette etc. The average payout in all casino games is set to 97.4%,a number very few casinos, both online and off line, can compete with. How cool is this?
So why not download a client and try it out.

play paintball

When I visit home, I inevitably get pulled along to play paintball with my cousins. They’re like a roving band of wild boys and for some reason they like having me along. Maybe it’s because I have phenomenal aim and I’m more aggressive than I look. I’m like the sneak attack on the opposing team. The best thing about their paintball obsession is that it gives me no-brainer gift options every Christmas and birthday. Most of my cousins are a good bit y9ounger than me and I have no idea what to get them, but I know without a doubt that I will never go wrong if I get them some paintball gear. I’ve already got the boys suited up with safety gear and I’m ready to move on to the more exciting stuff.

WOW..

As many of you may know I am on the brink of getting married. And bizarrely, as I am the groom and my betrothed is English, we are getting married in Maine. In East Boothbay no less, a little over a month from now. As we wanted our friends from away to come to our happy event I have had to think about my feelings for the State in which one of my parent’s was born and it is also a place close to my heart.

Now I am, like the rest of you on AMG, prone to whinge and moan about the situation as exists currently in Maine. The high taxes, bloated State government and socialist governor detract from the State’s appeal as a great place to live.

Now we have an eclectic collection of people coming to the wedding. They include a senior member of the US House of Representatives, to a candidate for Mayor of London to a local councillor from the English home counties, to my best man who was PA to former Prime Minister Ted Heath. Our English politicos will find themselves right at home in a place with crushing taxes, an ever-growing State sector and a man at its head who is not all he appears. In fact it could be said that Baldacci is more of socialist than Tony Blair MP, the current leader of the Labour Party. Baldacci has far more in common with London Mayor Ken Livingston with his love of Chavez and high taxes, than with New Labour Blair.

But our wedding group includes a variety of professions, lest you think its merely a political conference masquerading as a wedding. We have an actor who is filming his first staring role, the cheeky sod got his first starring role (in the forthcoming Mum and Dad) the month before his younger sister, also an actress, is getting married. His name is Perry Benson, and he is supported at the festivities by several other members of the acting profession. We have a cadre of people who work for or around the football (aka soccer) profession as well provide an exciting mix. Fortunately, their respective teams are not in any of the cups that call for post-season play.

I am finding that I have to sell them the good aspects of the State, especially to all those coming from away, either out of State or further away. Many of our guests are combining our wedding with a week or more in the US. Most have not been to the North East and are keen to learn about the area.

Telling them about the beautiful shore and countryside of Maine is the easy bit, but where do you stop? The excellent seafood, fresh from our fisherman and lobsterman, the friendly people and the inexpensive shopping in Freeport (and with its almost 2 to 1 it is good). OK, so that last bit is not a hard sell the ladies coming it has to be said. There is so much good about Maine, whether the small stone chapel in Ocean Point where we are to marry or the excellent hotels and restaurants that you can find in Maine.

We must not, as those who care about Maine, forget all the good things about our State. It might not be the greatest place to live right now, but it’s a wonderful place to visit. I am sure all my guests are going to have a cracking time in Maine during their stay. I just wish I could recommend it as a great place for them to live. Every single one of the people at the wedding has skills and abilities that would be welcomed by Mainers.
