past weekend

This past weekend I went and saw Evan Almighty. Overall I’d give it a decent rating. Nothing spectacular but then again nothing crappy either.There were definitely a few good messages within the movie. The one that stuck out to me was when Morgan Freeman, who plays God, was talking with Evan’s wife about how crazy Evan seemed to be building an ark. He posed a simple question to her: when someone prays for courage, do you think God gives them courage or gives them the opportunity to be courageous?

It’s such a simple idea yet is extremely overlooked. People are constantly praying for courage, wisdom, etc. After they get done praying they think they’re in the clear - that if it’s meant to be God will give them said character value. But it isn’t as easy as that. We must seize an opportunity if it presents itself - God isn’t going to give us everything on a silver platter. In the end it all goes back to God’s love for us in giving us the right to choose whether to follow him or not - free will. Just as we’re able to accept or reject Him, we also need to step up to the plate and take opportunities that God has given us.
